‘What happens when domestic objects and artworks are presented outside?’
Picnic – Objects in Public transforms Hampstead Heath into an open curatorial field where sculpture and intervention are released from institutional framing. Works by contemporary artists across sculpture, installation, and material practice are dispersed through the landscape, where they enter into unpredictable relationships with weather, movement, and encounter.
The exhibition is structured not through walls, but through circulation. Paths, clearings, and pauses become temporary rooms—unstable, informal, constantly rewritten by those who pass through them. Each encounter redefines what is seen, and what is overlooked.
In this curatorial experiment, the “public” is not a backdrop but an active condition. It interrupts authorship, dissolves fixed viewing positions, and exposes the fragile boundary between use and display. An object may function as marker, invitation, obstruction, or trace.
